Nottingham Climbing Centre

Indoor climbing spaces are particularly vulnerable to overheating and poor air quality due to the physical activity, high ceilings, and use of chalk. Climbers at this facility had endured uncomfortable summer temperatures and significant dust build-up, both of which affected performance and overall experience. We designed, supplied, and installed a ventilation and cooling system to create a safer, more comfortable environment.

Challenge
The climbing centre faced two key issues: high internal temperatures during summer months and excessive dust levels from chalk use. Overheating can impact athlete performance and safety, while dust accumulation reduces air quality and creates an unpleasant environment for visitors and staff alike. The centre needed a solution that addressed both concerns without compromising energy efficiency.

Solution
Following our standard process, we delivered a tailored installation to tackle both heat and dust control:

1. Consultation & Assessment: A site survey was carried out to assess heat gain, airflow, and dust levels.

2. Proposal: We designed a solution that prioritised both cooling and air quality, while ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards.

3. Installation & Commissioning: Our engineers installed 2 wall extractor units to remove heat and airborne chalk, and 2 Breezair evaporative coolers to provide efficient temperature control and fresh air replacement. The system was balanced to ensure consistent airflow throughout the facility.

Result
Temperatures have been significantly reduced since the installation, creating a more comfortable climbing environment even during peak summer heat. Dust levels have also decreased, improving air quality and enhancing the overall experience for climbers and staff. The centre now benefits from a safer, cleaner, and energy-efficient system designed to meet its unique demands.
